There are 0 comments on this blog Post Comments Where did the time go?Wow I just realized it has been quite a while since I posted to my blog. I have been keeping busy. When I am not at work school takes up a good chunk of my time. I have also been exploring some new mediums in art: watercolor and stained glass. I actually saw a show on TV about a stained glass artists. I was so interested in what she did that I went out a few weeks later and bought myself some startup supplies. I haven't created anything that I feel is web worthy yet, but I'm getting there. Watercolor and glass are completely new to me and it will take some time for me to produce some quality work. In the meantime, I am having a great time with my attempts.

I am taking classes online. Online classes are a new thing for me. I am still getting used to it. It feels really good to be back in school. I had some financial problems last year and had to quit school for almost a year. I really would have liked to use that time to earn credits, but I'm back in school now and that is what is important.

I have been away from school for almost a year now due to financial difficulties. One upside is that I have had so much time to pursue personal projects. I sold 3 paintings last year and that really amazes me. When I set out to take my hobby out of the house making any money from my artwork seemed so far fetched. I feared that people would not like my style and would want nothing to do with my work. I feel much more confident now. Going to school and showing my work on this site has really helped improve my attitude about selling my artwork. I think now instead of telling myself "no one wants this junk", I'm telling myself "hey I spent time creating a quality piece of work and I'm going to find the people who appreciate it." As it turns out I haven't really had to look very hard.

I have to admit I am bored. I was afraid to bring any art supplies on the plane with me. I wasn't sure they were allowed for one and two oil paints and clothes don't exactly mix. Also space was a critical issue. After my basic necessity stuff, clothes toothbrush etc. I really didn't have the room. Yesterday I bought a starter set of watercolor paint and some paper. I thought I would explore this medium and see what happens.

I just arrived at my new home yesterday. I'm getting settled in. In a few weeks I will begin painting again. I don't have the work space that I used to so I think I may stick to small pieces for now. I have to get my ducks in a row before committing to larger works. I am now living by Austin. There seems to be a lot of things happening with art in this community. I think I am going to have a lot of fun here. Happy Holidays!

There are 0 comments on this blog Post Comments the journey beginsNext month my son and I are moving from our home in California to a new home in Texas. My artwork will have to be put on hold for a few months, until we get settled in. I am glad to see some new names up on the Starving Art Students home page. I hope to have some updates for my site in a couple of months.

There are 0 comments on this blog Post Comments supportThe holidays are approaching. I can always tell because Walmart has again put out their Christmas decorations in October. I can already feel the shopping panic when I go out to stores. Yeah that's right everyone is eager to get a jump start on the holiday train. I would like to encourage all of you this year to stop for a moment and realize how lucky you are to have the great things that you do in your life. Also remember that there are a lot of people that will not endure overcrowded stores to get that last can of cranberry sauce. There are a lot of men and women overseas right now fighting a war. Whatever your standpoint is on the war, I think it's important to remember all the tragic efforts that make out country great. Take a moment to thank those troops for their efforts to protect our country. Xerox has built a website to help extend thanks to our troops. All you have to do is click on the link below select a FREE card and FREE message and Xerox will print the card and send it to one of our troops. These guys and gals don't want to be away from their families anymore than we want them to be so lets say thanks.
Send your card today and show you care.

There are 0 comments on this blog Post Comments New work to be completed soonMy new painting is soon to be completed! I expect to finish it next week. You are all invited to come to my site and see the new piece as soon as it is done. I am excited about posting new photos. This new painting is the largest canvas I have used. It measures 46" x 46". I used a new brand of oil that I will tell you all about when the new photos come out. Also the company I bought them from was really nice to me. This new painting will be up for sale on http://aprylinparis.tripod.com/ by the end of the month.

There are 0 comments on this blog Post Comments getting ready for the exhibitI spent last week working on my new paintings. Sometimes being an artists feels exactly like being a carpenter. I really felt like that when I began assembling my new 46 inch stretcher bars and stapling the canvas to it. I really worked up a sweat putting these together. My efforts paid off though. I have 3 46" x 46" blank surfaces to work on now. I'm so excited. The gesso is dry and I am ready to start painting tomorrow morning. I would like to invite each and every one of you too my store. http://aprylinparis.tripod.com I have chosen only my highest quality works to be in this store. The pages of the site are very attractive too. >

There are 0 comments on this blog Post Comments On the WayTomorrow I plan to give my site a little face lift. I have been very busy with my artwork and that is a good thing. I bought new supplies for upcomming projects. I plan to enter a local exhibit in December. I will be posting a link to the Arts Council that is sponsoring the exhibit. This is such an exciting time for me. I bought gesso and oil paint and some new stretcher bars. If my artwork is chosen to be in the exhibit, it will be the first time my work has been shown in a gallery. This is a big step in the right direction for me. I hope to sell more paintings and enter into more exhibits in the future.

There are 0 comments on this blog Post Comments living lifeThe fall season is apon us. Some of us are returning to school and this means less time for personal art projects. I have to say this has been a productive summer for me. I put this portfolio on the web and also set up a shop. I learned a great deal about the ebay art scene. I have also learned a lot about my local art scene. I made some connections with local artists. I can't tell you how much this helps when you want to learn the business. If you are at all interested in selling your work, please connect with other artists. Community gallery offer shows and events to help fledglings get their work seen. I have found that connecting with other artists to be inspiring. My advice to all you starving artists this fall is to get out there and make connections. Take some classes at your local college or frequent your local galleries. Watch for local events and participate. You'll be glad you did!
